Tumuaki/Principal News
Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,
Welcome to Term Two, I hope that you all had a lovely Easter Break with your whānau. It was wonderful for me to spend time with all my grandchildren and children. We are still in the Easter Season celebrating the Resurrection of Christ.
On our Teacher Only Day the teachers unpacked the Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum (ANZHC) to help us have a clearer understanding about our history and how we can integrate this into other areas of the Curriculum.
This term we are integrating the Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum into our learning.
In the Seniors they are learning about how people adapted their technologies and tools to the new environment of Aotearoa, New Zealand. They will explore what adaptations the early Māori made to enable them to survive and thrive in a new environment.
The Juniors are learning about our local area - the names of the features of our landscape, and how the ways in which people have used our local area have changed over time.
Hoods Up For Autism Acceptance Friday 28 April - Students wear a hoodie (over their uniform)
April is Autism Acceptance Month, and as part of this, Autism New Zealand is running a campaign to raise understanding, awareness, and acceptance of the neurological condition. St Michael’s will mark Hoods Up for Autism Acceptance this Friday 28 April. We encourage students to swap their school jumpers for a hoody for the day (normal uniform underneath). It is an opportunity to wear a hoody (with the hood up or down) to show that you stand with the autistic community of Aotearoa New Zealand (no donation required).
